France offers a road network with stunning routes, much to the delight of drivers. On the agenda, breathtaking views of the most beautiful natural wonders of the different regions and unique memories. To give you a taste and for your next solo, couple, or family trips, we have selected five must-see roads. From the Riviera corniche to the Route des Grandes Alpes, passing by the wine route, get ready for extraordinary circuits!

The Riviera corniches

The famous Riviera road has three possible routes, each offering a view that is simply breathtaking. These three circuits are located between Nice and Monaco: the first, which is the lower one, runs along the coast, giving you an unobstructed view of the sea and its amenities (beach resorts, ports, luxury villas, etc.). The second, the middle one, is elevated and leads to the village of Eze, which is situated in the heights. Finally, the third, the Grande Corniche, offers a winding circuit over the Col des Quatre Chemins and Eze. An ideal circuit for mountain lovers who want to enjoy the view, especially to take in the sunsets.

The Route des Crêtes

The Route des Crêtes is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful circuits in France and even offers a ride on one of the highest maritime cliffs in Europe. Over 15 kilometers long, the Route des Crêtes takes you from the Calanques National Park, between Marseille and Cassis, to the port of the small seaside resort of La Ciotat. For an exceptional driving pleasure, weave through the bends between the pines and make a short stop in the famous village of Cassis to visit its charming little fishing port. From the road, you can enjoy different viewpoints of the sea and the surrounding massifs: trails can also be taken on foot to reach unique places and discover sublime panoramas of the Mediterranean Sea.

The Burgundy wine route

Starting from Dijon, the Burgundy wine route, also known as the wine route, crosses a vast hilly territory dotted with vineyards over about sixty kilometers, leading you to Santenay. If you are a lover of Burgundy wines, the names of the villages will not be unfamiliar to you: you will have the pleasure of passing through Nuits Saint Georges, Volnay, Gevrey-Chambertin, and Meursault. As a cherry on top, you can stop along the way to shop directly at the estate and meet the producers.

The wine route is traveled each year by thousands of drivers (both French and foreign) but with moderation on the tastings that are a must.

The Cap Corse coastline

Departmental road 80 is the route that runs along the Cap Corse coastline on the northern part. It offers a breathtaking view of the Mediterranean Sea and takes you to places that seem straight out of a photo album: you will discover hilltop villages, ports, seaside resorts, and watchtowers erected in the 16th century during the Genoese domination.

You can enjoy the different viewpoints along the circuit, especially when the road starts to climb into the heights and in the western part inland.

Our advice: When you reach the Col de la Serra (located at 365 meters altitude), plan a short break to take souvenir photos!

The Route des Grandes Alpes

The Route des Grandes Alpes is unconditionally part of our top 5 most photogenic roads in France. Even though its route is only passable from June to October, the view offers unique sensations during your drive for guaranteed memories. The rest of the year, the road is closed due to too many closed passes because of snow and accident risks.

Over 700 kilometers long and punctuated by 17 spectacular passes (some of which will take you over 2500m altitude), you will need to plan several days to travel this unique route and enjoy an unobstructed view of one of the most beautiful mountain ranges in the world.

From the shores of Lake Geneva to the Mediterranean Sea, let yourself be led along the mountainside, through the Alps: starting from Thonon-les-Bains, passing through the Vanoise, Queyras, or Mercantour massifs (you can organize your itinerary as you wish), travel one of the most beautiful roads in France and enjoy breathtaking viewpoints!
