Route through the museums of this wonderful city. Did you know that Málaga has positioned itself as the city of museums? All of them are located in its historic center, allowing you to simultaneously explore the typical architecture and history of the city.
Here are some of the most interesting museums you can visit:

Picasso Museum

We begin our tour with the Picasso Museum, located in the beautiful Buenavista Palace, declared a National Monument in 1939. It houses a permanent collection that showcases eight decades of work by Pablo Picasso, who was born in Málaga in 1881. The collection conveys the rigor and creative capacity of an artist essential to understanding the history of Western Art.

It features 233 works that span 80 years of the Málaga-born painter’s work, from 1892 to 1972.

Jorge Rando Museum

The Jorge Rando Museum is the reference center for the work of this Málaga master. It is the first institution in Spain dedicated to the study, research, and dissemination of expressionist poetics, from the late 19th century to the present day.

Here, we can enjoy an artistic journey that covers different themes: from African landscapes to prostitution, passion, or motherhood. It also offers temporary exhibitions of national and international artists linked to this artistic movement. The museum hosts the “Music Hour” every Saturday at 12 noon, featuring open-door concerts and rehearsals in the church of the Monastery next to the museum.

Glass and Crystal Museum

The building where this unique museum is located dates back to the 18th century. It is known as the old San Felipe Neri inn and is located opposite the church of the same name, in the artisan district of Málaga. Here, you can admire more than 3,000 pieces of glass, distributed among paintings, furniture, and decorative objects.

You will enjoy works that span different historical periods: from pieces from ancient Egypt, Phoenician, Byzantine, or Medieval times to artists from the mid-century Pop School with pieces by Gallé, Lalique, or Whitefriars.

Wine Museum

If you like wine, savor an authentic oenological experience at the Wine Museum of Málaga. A space where history, culture, art, and education about the wines of the province of Málaga coexist. It is located in the Biedmas Palace, in the Plaza de los Viñeros. This 18th-century palace was renovated in 2008, coinciding with the 75th anniversary of the Málaga Designation of Origin Regulatory Council.

It features an exhibition of more than 400 lithographs (labels and posters from the 19th and 20th centuries), an Interpretation Center, a Tasting Room, a Training Room, and a Shop. It promotes the culture of wines with the “Málaga” and “Sierras de Málaga” Designation of Origin.

Here, we can take a tour through the most curious wine labels and illustrations, tools for vine cultivation, and learn about the entire production process of these exquisite wines.

Interactive Music Museum

The Interactive Music Museum (MIMMA) is located in the heart of Málaga’s historic center, in the Palace of the Count of las Navas, an 18th-century building. It has an important collection of musical instruments from around the world and from all eras, many of which can be played. Aimed at all types of audiences, both children and adults, it is an interactive museum where the only requirement is to have fun and interact in all its spaces.

It has a collection of almost 1000 pieces and is positioned as one of the most important private collections in Europe, with instruments from all eras and cultures, carefully compiled by D. Miguel Ángel Piédrola Orta.

Museum of Arts and Popular Customs

Located in a 17th-century building in the heart of Málaga, in the old Victoria inn, this museum allows you to take a journey through the history of Málaga, its customs, and activities in the 19th century. In this space, located in the old 17th-century inn, you will walk among carriages, observing the trades of blacksmithing, baking, fishing, and printing. You will discover the production of wine and oil and learn all the curiosities of rural life, folklore, or popular religion.
