A native of Montpellier, Anaïs has never managed to leave her hometown. She knows it like the back of her hand and has decided to give it a special place on her blog www.tribulationsdanais.com.

Les Tribulations d’Anaïs started as a fashion blog where she showcases her outfits, as well as a beauty blog where she offers product reviews. She also loves to share her favorite spots in Montpellier and announce upcoming events in her city!

5 good reasons to visit Montpellier

For the sea just 10km from the city center

What a joy to know that in just about twenty minutes, you can escape to the seaside and take a deep breath of salty air! In the summer, as soon as you leave work, you can jump into your swimsuit and head straight for a swim! You can also enjoy it in the winter because the temperatures are so mild that a walk by the sea, wrapped in your coat, is always very pleasant and refreshing.

Moreover, we have a wide choice of beaches. If you choose Palavas for its proximity, you might prefer the beaches of Villeneuve Lès Maguelone, which are certainly further away but so much more beautiful, with, for example, the wild beach of Aresquiers.

It’s a young and student-friendly city

In Montpellier, one in four residents is a student. Three universities and six grandes écoles make this city one of the top places in France for studying, but especially for… partying! Whether in the small streets of Montpellier with its many bars offering different atmospheres or, a bit further out, just a few minutes from the city center, with its nightclubs, there are plenty of places to gather with friends and have a great evening!

In the summer, the must-attend event on Friday nights is Les Estivales: we meet on the Esplanade Charles de Gaulle to enjoy a glass of wine while tasting local specialties. For those less into partying, the city center is also full of small restaurants for all budgets! You can also find cozy tea rooms offering delicious treats, perfect for an afternoon of studying for exams!

For its incredible climate

As I mentioned earlier, Montpellier enjoys a very pleasant Mediterranean climate. In the summer, of course, the beaches are very popular because temperatures can get very high. Barbecues, evenings on the balcony or at the beach are common. As for winter, it is very mild here. You won’t need a hat, gloves, or other furry scarves. For those who feel the cold, you can of course dress as you like, because another quality of Montpellier is that everyone dresses as they please! It’s not uncommon to see people in shorts and flip-flops alongside those in down jackets during the mid-season!

For the diversity of its landscape

We talked earlier about the seaside, but Montpellier also knows how to show very diverse faces. Historic city center, Place de la Comédie, Promenade du Peyrou, Jardin des Plantes, Saint-Pierre Cathedral, private mansions… the list is obviously not exhaustive, but just getting lost in the small streets of the city and looking up is enough to be amazed.

If you’re tired of the city, just take the car to quickly find yourself in the countryside or the mountains. You have the Camargue about twenty minutes away, the Cévennes National Park an hour away, or the Pyrenees four hours away. And again, it’s impossible to list all the possibilities!

For its tramway

Clearly, summarizing Montpellier in five points is impossible, but if there’s one thing that sets us apart from other cities, it’s our four tram lines. Still under construction today, the network is waiting to welcome more new lines. For those already present, we didn’t go for subtlety: the first is blue with white birds, the second is flowery, the third has a marine theme, and the fourth, finally, is golden. So, it’s impossible to get the wrong line! And unlike the metro, traveling “outside” is so pleasant! It’s also an opportunity to get a glimpse of what the Montpellier landscape has in store for you while heading to your destination.
