however, if you're in the mood for a bit more excitement, a visit to the schloss thurn amusement park is recommended. it is about half an hour from erlangen and close enough for a day trip, or you could incorporate the visit into a longer journey. this amusement park, with its historical offerings and roller coasters, monorail, and log flume, should provide enough entertainment for small (and big) children!

and if you would like to drive a bit further, you can reach berchtesgaden in the bavarian alps in three and a half hours by car. history enthusiasts should not miss a trip to hitler's eagle's nest – an elevator inside the mountain takes visitors all the way to the top, where you can explore the rooms hitler used for entertaining. there is also a restaurant with a fantastic panoramic view of the mountains.
