Driving in Brindisi
To rent a car in Italy, you must be over the age of 18 and hold a valid EU licence. International driver’s licences are accepted but not obligatory.
The speed limit on motorways is 130 km/h, main roads 110 km/h and secondary roads 90 km/h. Within urban and populated areas this is reduced to between 50-70 km/h.
Blue road signs and markings indicate paid parking zones. White road markings mean parking time is limited but free. Yellow parking bays are reserved for special vehicles, police, disabled etc. In the Old Town, paid parking applies from Monday to Saturday, between 8am to 2pm, and 4pm to 6pm. On Sundays and public holidays, it is usually free to park.
In the historic citadel of Brindisi, there is a ZTL () enforced throughout the week. Only residents or permit holders can enter this zone. Be aware that cameras monitor this area, and you will be fined if you enter without a permit.
In Italy, most of the motorways are toll roads with toll charges payable by cash or credit/debit card.
When driving in Italy, be aware that there are few petrol stations open on Sundays. Those that are open on Sundays are often closed on Mondays.

Popular attractions in Brindisi include the Church of Santa Maria degli Angeli, and the cathedral Basilica of Visitation and St. John the Baptist. For a relaxing end to the day, few places are more attractive than the harbour at sunset - watch the beautiful view with a cold drink at one of the many seafront bars.
